Build a detailed scale replica of the historic Australian paddle steamer PS Captain Sturt with this 1:200 scale card model kit from Orel (No. 358).

Commissioned in 1916, Captain Sturt was assembled in Australia after its hull was brought from America. The hull was reassembled and the engine installed at Mannum, before the vessel was towed to Blanchetown, where its decks, cabins and other parts of the superstructure were completed.

Powered by an impressive 28-foot-diameter sternwheel, Captain Sturt was designed as a hard-working river vessel. During its working life, it was used to push as many as three barges carrying granite and other materials.

In 1946, Captain Sturt was converted into a houseboat and moored at Goolwa. After decades of deterioration, the remaining vessel was incorporated into Captain Sturt's Wharf in Goolwa, where its historic paddlewheel can still be seen.

This Orel card model recreates the distinctive appearance of the Australian sternwheel paddle steamer in 1:200 scale.
