Product Description
Build a highly detailed scale replica of the Russian Imperial Navy gunboat Gilyak with this impressive 1:200 scale card model kit from Orel, issue No. 132.
Laid down at the New Admiralty in 1895 and launched in September 1897, Gilyak entered service at the end of the 19th century before being sent to the Far East to join the Russian Pacific Squadron. The gunboat later became involved in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904–1905, operating from Port Arthur.
During the siege of Port Arthur, Gilyak took part in defensive operations, including supporting mine-laying activities and shelling Japanese positions. In November 1904, during the final stages of the siege, the gunboat was sunk in Port Arthur harbour after being hit by Japanese artillery fire.
Orel's 1:200 Gilyak is a complex and highly detailed card model designed primarily for experienced card modellers. The publication contains 18 A4 sheets and offers the modeller a choice of two colour schemes, allowing the finished ship to represent different appearances of the vessel.
Several sheets feature full-colour double-sided printing, helping to create a cleaner and more realistic appearance on exposed parts. Selected components also feature metallic bronze printing, adding extra detail to fittings and equipment without requiring the modeller to reproduce these effects manually.
With its distinctive late-19th-century gunboat design, extensive detailing and connection to the fighting at Port Arthur, Gilyak makes an excellent addition to any collection of Imperial Russian Navy, Russo-Japanese War or 1:200 scale warship models.
