Product Description
Build an impressive replica of the MiG-9, the Soviet Union’s first jet fighter to enter operational service, with this highly detailed 1:33 scale card model kit from Orel (No. 078).
Developed during the immediate post-war period, the MiG-9 entered service in 1946 and represented an important step in the transition from piston-powered aircraft to modern jet fighters. Although its operational career was relatively short, the aircraft played an important role in the development of Soviet jet aviation before being superseded by the much more advanced swept-wing MiG-15.
The MiG-9 featured a distinctive straight-wing design and was heavily armed for an early jet fighter. Its armament consisted of one 37 mm N-37 cannon with 40 rounds and two 23 mm NS-23 cannons with a total of 160 rounds.
This Orel paper model was designed by Vyacheslav Zaitsev, an experienced card model designer also known for aircraft such as the Yak-7B, Heinkel He 100D and Petlyakov Pe-3. The kit provides a high level of detail across 16 A4 sheets, making it an interesting project for experienced aircraft and military aviation modellers.
