Product Description

Build a detailed scale replica of the famous Yakovlev Yak-1B Soviet fighter aircraft with this 1:33 scale paper model kit from Orel (028).

Developed from the Yakovlev I-26 prototype, the Yak-1 entered production in 1940 and became one of the important Soviet fighter aircraft of the Second World War. Its relatively low weight, good stability and straightforward handling made it a successful combat aircraft and provided the basis for further development of the Yakovlev fighter family.

The improved version commonly known as the Yak-1B featured a number of important modifications, including improved rearward visibility through a redesigned cockpit canopy and lowered rear fuselage. Armament was also upgraded with the installation of a 12.7 mm Berezin UBS machine gun alongside the aircraft's 20 mm ShVAK cannon.

Serial production of the improved Yak-1 began in September 1942, and the aircraft saw extensive service with Soviet forces during the war.

This Orel 028 paper model kit represents the Yak-1B flown by French pilot Albert Durand of the famous Normandie-Niemen fighter regiment in 1943, giving the finished model an especially interesting historical connection.
