Product Description
The Pantaloon Brig 1831 is a highly detailed 1:200 scale card model kit representing a historic British naval brig from the early 19th century. Originally designed by Captain William Simonds as a luxury yacht for the Duke of Portland, Pantaloon was launched on June 10, 1831, before being purchased by the Admiralty and converted into a military brig later that same year.
After reconstruction, the vessel served actively in the Royal Navy, undertaking voyages to Portsmouth, Lisbon, and the west coast of Africa. Pantaloon earned distinction through its involvement in capturing slave traders’ ships, making it an important example of Britain’s anti-slavery naval operations. The ship was finally disassembled in Portsmouth in August 1852.
Published by Orel, this compact yet sophisticated card model kit is designed for experienced model builders. Despite its small scale, it offers refined detailing, including special printing that realistically imitates copper sheathing on the hull’s underside. Clear English-language instructions guide the build process, ensuring an engaging and rewarding modeling experience.
