The Polikarpov I-5 was an early Soviet biplane fighter developed at the end of the 1920s and introduced into service in the early 1930s. It became the first Soviet fighter aircraft to be produced in large numbers and played an important role in the development of Soviet military aviation. The I-5 was also used as a training aircraft, helping prepare many pilots who would later serve during the Second World War.
