Product Description

Build a detailed scale replica of one of the most important Soviet fighters of World War II with the Orel La-5 Card Model Kit No. 086. Designed in 1:33 scale, this paper model represents the famous Lavochkin La-5, introduced into Soviet service in 1942.

The La-5 was developed by the design team led by Semyon A. Lavochkin from the earlier LaGG-3 fighter. The major improvement was the installation of the powerful Shvetsov ASh-82 air-cooled radial engine, which significantly improved the aircraft's performance. La-5 fighters entered combat during the Battle of Stalingrad in 1942, where they proved capable of competing with contemporary German fighters.

With a top speed of approximately 613 km/h (381 mph) and good manoeuvrability, the La-5 became an important fighter for the Soviet Air Force. Its armament consisted of two synchronised 20 mm ShVAK cannons, providing considerable firepower for air-to-air combat.

This Orel model depicts the distinctive "toothy" La-5, an aircraft specially repainted for presentation to Soviet fighter pilot Captain Georgy Kostylev as a gift from his fellow servicemen. Its unusual nose artwork makes this version particularly attractive for aviation modellers and collectors.
