The Ural ZiS-355M was a medium-duty two-axle truck manufactured at the Ural Automotive Plant in the USSR between 1958 and 1965. Developed as an improved successor to earlier ZiS truck designs, it became well known for its durability, simple maintenance and ability to operate reliably under demanding conditions.

Although officially rated to carry approximately 3.5 tonnes, the ZiS-355M earned a reputation among drivers for handling considerably heavier loads. Its robust construction also made it suitable for towing cargo trailers, while features such as a factory-fitted cab heater offered drivers a welcome degree of comfort during harsh Soviet winters.

More than 192,000 ZiS-355M trucks were produced in numerous configurations for civilian and industrial use. The vehicle became a familiar sight throughout the Soviet Union and acquired several popular nicknames among drivers, including “Uralets”, “Kirgiz” and “Zakhar.”
