CSS Albemarle was an ironclad warship of the Confederate States Navy during the American Civil War. Commissioned in April 1864, she played an important role in Confederate operations in North Carolina, taking part in actions against Union naval forces on the Roanoke River and Albemarle Sound.

Her armoured construction and powerful ram made Albemarle a serious threat to Union vessels operating in the region. After conventional attempts to neutralise the ironclad proved difficult, a daring operation was organised to destroy her. On the night of 27–28 October 1864, Lieutenant William B. Cushing and a small volunteer crew approached Albemarle in a steam launch and successfully detonated a spar torpedo beneath the ironclad, sinking her at her moorings.
