At approximately 585 mm (23") long when completed, IJN Yūgumo makes an impressive display model while remaining a practical size for most collections. The model features a full hull with underwater section, detailed superstructure, deck equipment, boats, masts and the destroyer’s distinctive weapons arrangement.

The real IJN Yūgumo was the lead ship of a class of Japanese destroyers developed from the preceding Kagerō class. Commissioned in 1941, she served extensively during the Pacific War before being sunk during the Battle of Vella Lavella in October 1943.

One of the highlights of this model is Yūgumo’s formidable armament. The ship carried six 127 mm guns in three twin turrets together with eight 610 mm torpedo tubes arranged in two quadruple launchers, designed to fire the famous Japanese Type 93 “Long Lance” torpedo.
