Product Description
Build one of the most iconic Soviet ground-attack aircraft of the Second World War with this highly detailed Ilyushin Il-2 single-seat card model kit from Orel, catalogue number 126, in impressive 1:33 scale.
The Ilyushin Il-2 entered production in 1941 and became one of the most important Soviet combat aircraft of WWII. This model represents the original single-seat version, manufactured from March 1941 until early 1943. Unlike later variants, it did not have a rear gunner, leaving the aircraft particularly vulnerable to fighter attacks from behind.
Combat experience quickly demonstrated the need for improved rear protection. Several solutions were tested, including rear-firing machine-gun installations, while field workshops also began converting single-seat Il-2s into two-seat aircraft. Approximately 1,200 aircraft were converted in combat units before the two-seat version entered serial production in October 1942. Single- and two-seat Il-2 variants continued to be manufactured in parallel until early 1943.
Designed by Vyacheslav Zaitsev, this Orel paper model offers an impressive combination of detailed construction, authentic military appearance and attractive printed colouring.
