Product Description

Build the famous Sea Shepherd conservation vessel MV Steve Irwin with this highly detailed 1:250 scale card model kit from HMV Hamburger Modellbaubogen Verlag, supplied together with the matching laser-cut detail set.

Designed by Benjamin Fentens, the model recreates the distinctive Sea Shepherd vessel in its 2013 camouflage colour scheme, while also providing parts for the well-known 2010 black version with yellow markings. The ship can be constructed either as a full-hull model with display stand or as a waterline model, giving modellers several options for displaying the finished vessel.

The kit has been cleverly designed to accommodate different levels of modelling experience. A simplified build uses approximately 155 parts and can be completed as an attractive model without incorporating every fine detail. Experienced card modellers can take the project much further, using up to 687 parts to reproduce the vessel's cranes, speedboats, water cannon, helicopter deck and numerous small fittings.

This set also includes the matching laser-cut detail set, providing precisely cut components that help enhance the appearance and fine detail of the completed model.

The Story of MV Steve Irwin

The vessel was built by Hall, Russell & Company in Aberdeen, Scotland, and entered service in 1975 as FPV Westra, serving as a Scottish fisheries protection vessel.

After later becoming part of the Sea Shepherd fleet, the ship initially operated under the name Robert Hunter, honouring Canadian environmentalist and Greenpeace co-founder Robert Hunter.

On 5 December 2007, shortly before Sea Shepherd's Antarctic campaign Operation Migaloo, the vessel was officially renamed Steve Irwin in honour of the late Australian conservationist and wildlife advocate. The renaming was announced in Melbourne by Steve Irwin's widow, Terri Irwin, together with Sea Shepherd founder Paul Watson.

MV Steve Irwin subsequently became one of Sea Shepherd's best-known vessels, participating in campaigns in the Southern Ocean and becoming particularly recognisable through television coverage of anti-whaling operations.
